Have you ever thought back to the times when you were very young, and all you could think about were those awesome games that you use to play with your siblings or cousins? I know that I do! With so many moments floating around in my head…even with my horrible memory, there are several things that I can still recall like it was yesterday.

Growing up…my family loved to play card games, and when I say loved, even that would be an understatement. I am not even kidding when I tell you that I use to accompany my mom to my Aunt’s house on Friday evening at 6pm, where several of my adult relatives would meet up to play Rummy or Poker until about 2am the next morning. Saturday night it was the same thing, and then on Sunday, we’d get there even earlier when the fun for them would start at noon. This would happen every weekend when I was growing up. Of course, I never complained, since all of my cousins would be there as well. Just like the adults, we played card games of our own… Go Fish, Crazy Eights, 21 and War.

Tonight, my 5-year-old found a deck of cards and asked Shane and I to play with her. Just like when I was a kid, we chose a game that she could pick up on easily. That game was War! It only took Aria a few go-arounds to understand all of the rules, and before we knew it, she was having a blast! What do you know?!? ARIA WON!!

This game is super simple for a child to learn, and all you’d need is a deck of cards. This game is definitely great for travel as it is so compact. If you’d like to learn how to play this game, then here is an awesome video I found by Rulies on how to play it.

Well…I hope you enjoy this video, and I wish you the best of luck if you decide to challenge a kindergartner to it. Lol! I know that my 5-year-old enjoyed beating both my husband and I out.

If you have some great games that you played as a child, that are simple enough for young kids to learn, then I’d love to here about them!
