Oh my gosh! I can’t believe it took me almost two years to find this amazing place! My family and I are major foodies, and the one thing that we look forward to every time we travel or even move to a new place are the local eats. Back in 2018, when I found out that we would be moving to Oklahoma, the first thing I started researching about the area wasn’t where we would be living… more like what types of restaurants were in that area. We are definitely the kind of people who can make the most out of every place we go to; however, it’s the food that makes it well worth it for us. Thankfully, my husband stumbled across this place by accident when trying to track down our package at the UPS store next door. Welcome to Metro Diner!

Metro Diner in Oklahoma City

I’m not going to lie when I say that my husband had been to this place three days straight, and my kids and I for two. The atmosphere is so relaxed and very family-friendly, and you are greeted by the host/hostess right when you walk in the door. When you get there, there is a bit of a wait. This wouldn’t be surprising since the food is absolutely amazing, that it is always crowded. The great news is that they do have a check-in/waitlist texting option to where it will notify you once your table is ready. Today we had family in town, so we needed a table for six. I went onto the Metro Diner website for Oklahoma City, and checked the wait time (which shows real-time), and was able to put my name and number of people on the list. At the time our wait time was 21 minutes, but by the time we got there, we only had to wait 5 additional minutes while everyone who was just showing up were looking at a 30 minute wait. So by this…I definitely recommend putting your name on the waitlist ahead of time.

By the time we were seated, our waitress came to greet us with all smiles. This has been our experience with all of our servers the past 3 days that we have been here. This place has a very positive atmosphere. I absolutely love that! One of my favorite foods that I have to get every time I see it is Chicken & Waffles. I’ve loved it since I’d first tried it many years back when my husband and I had gone to Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles in Atlanta, Georgia (no longer open). That place had set the bar pretty high for me when it came to my expectations of fried chicken. When I saw the menu…look at what’s on the front just staring at me. Yum! This dish is definitely calling my name…”Thesia…Thesia…you know you want me!” Haha!! Of course, I had to order it.

Weekly Specials

When I had received my Chicken & Waffles, I was so impressed by the presentation and taste of it, that I couldn’t resist but order it two days in a row. The fried chicken was crispy, and it wasn’t over breaded like some recipes are. The meat had the right amount of juice to it, and wasn’t dried out at all. The Belgium Waffle was thick and fluffy, and was topped with some delicious, house-made strawberry butter. But if you think the butter was the icing on the cake…no…it was the sweet and spicy syrup that they made using Louisiana Hot Sauce and warmed maple syrup. This tastes absolutely amazing when you dip your chicken into it. Yummy!

I really enjoyed this dish! This restaurant definitely knew the way to my heart! But don’t get me wrong… although I’ve been raving about the Fried Chicken & Waffles, there are so many other very tasty dishes waiting to be tried. My family had ordered some pretty good eats as well. Yesterday, my husband tried the Fried Chicken Benedict (a weekly special), and went wide-eyed with how good it was. Today, my father-in-law ate the Pot Roast, and claimed that he really liked it. My uncle got the Western Omelette, and really enjoyed it. He claimed that this omelette came out perfect…not greasy at all. They even had shrimp and grits on the menu that looked real tasty, that I think I’ll try that next time. That’s one of the things about Metro Diner… you can have breakfast for dinner or dinner for breakfast. It is entirely up to you, and the best part… you’ll get it with a smile! There’s no judgement here!

Pot Roast, anyone?
The Western Omelette… all day, everyday!

This restaurant is a hidden gem, and although there are over 60 locations nation-wide, I can’t believe that I’m just finding out about this now. If you are looking for some amazing eats, jump onto Google, and put in that search to see if there is a Metro Diner near you. Trust me…if there is one nearby, then you definitely won’t want to miss out! Think about it… friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, delicious food and no judgements! This is the place you’ll wanna be! Happy eating!!
