These past couple of days, the weather in Oklahoma have been so weird. I mean… the cold isn’t so bad, unless the wind blows, that is. When the wind starts up, that’s when it feels like I’m back in Alaska again! Anyways, today the weather definitely surprised us. It was a beautiful day for an outing! The sun was shining, and we didn’t even need to wear our jackets. We’ve been cooped up at home with all these illnesses going around, so we definitely wanted to take the girls out of the house to get some sunlight and good eats. Razzoo’s was the first restaurant that came to mind!
If you love the taste of delicious cajun food, then Razzoo’s is where it’s at…at least, if you are in the Oklahoma City area! Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe has a very inviting and vibrant atmosphere, and is located in the Chisholm Creek area. As soon as you walk in, the staff are so friendly, that they definitely make you feel welcome. And as soon as we sat down, it didn’t take very long for our waitress to come by to take our drink orders. This was one of the first times that we left the iPads at home, so the girls got to enjoy some good old-fashioned coloring of the menus.
The entire menu looked so appetizing, and I was so tempted to get one of their amazing alcoholic drink specialties. However, it was still early in the day, so I’ve decided to settle for the Watermelon Mint Lemonade…or at least that’s what I think it was called. Haha! It was non-alcoholic, if that helps! It tasted so amazingly refreshing! I would have gotten another one if they had endless refills, but unfortunately, since it was a specialty drink…it was not! So delicious though!
We ordered the Rat Toes as an appetizer, and before you decide to get grossed out from it…the definitely throws people off for what it actually is. Rat Toes are actually fried jalapenos that were stuffed with crabmeat. They kinda were like Jalapeno Poppers on steroids…like Shane said. Lol! They had enough spice to keep you wanting more, but not too much spice to where your drink couldn’t cool the heat down.
When our food came out, they were very well plated, and the presentation of the dishes were beyond what we expected for that type of experience. It really gave off that bayou, cajun feel with the tin platters and wax paper to keep all the delicious chaos together. I can’t even begin to tell you how the food tasted. Let’s just say that we were extremely impressed with everything that we had ordered! We ordered the kids the Popcorn Shrimp and Fries. Nothing like good ole fried food to make the kiddos’ Sunday!
I had ordered the Honeysuckle Ribs, and they were….sweeeeeeeet! I got the half rack of ribs with the baked apples and fries. The entire dish complimented each other with the sweet, savory and hint of spice. The sauce that was smothered on the ribs had a bit of a smokey, yet sweet flavor, which I love! I’m so glad that they gave me extra to dip my ribs into for more flavor. The baked apples tasted great, and the fries had a pretty good seasoning on it.
Shane had ordered the Cajun Combo Skillet, which gave him a taste of it all… grilled andouille, shrimp creole, crawfish etouffee, and red beans. There definitely was plenty of food on the skillet, and Shane says that it all was great! The only thing that he claims that it could have used more of was the spice level of it all. However, he has a pretty high tolerance for heat, so the spice levels used in these cajun cuisines may be just right for those who just want to taste heat without burning away their taste buds. Haha! He also claimed that the food was savory, creamy and delicious. He highly recommends this dish for anyone who is stumped on what they would want, since you would be able to get a taste of it all.
Our entire experience here was amazing! Friendly staff, vibrant atmosphere, delicious food and great company! We definitely recommend that if you are in the Oklahoma City area, that you stop at Razoo’s Cajun Cafe for some good Cajun cuisine. The best part of our day was seeing the smiles on our girls’ faces when their tummies were full and we got to walk down the path to the nearby playground within Chisholm Creek. This place is very family-friendly…check it out!
